June 9th, 2009 | by joelucia |Hey everybody, welcome to BravesHeart. I’ll be your host. My name is Joe. A little bit about me. I’m 23 years old, and have been a huge Braves fan for 15 years now. I AM a stats nerd, so expect a lot of fun numbers and pretty graphs to marvel at. I’m gonna try to get at least a post up a day, lets see how that goes.
MLB Draft starts in about a half hour, and the Braves are sitting in a very ugly spot at 7. Most mocks released today have us taking UNC P Alex White or Vanderbilt P Mike Minor, which does not please me. In my ideal situation, Tyler Matzek (HS P – California) or Zack Wheeler (HS P – Georgia~! Just what the doctor ordered, another Georgia prospect) will fall to us. I absolutely want no part of Donavan Tate or Grant Green (SS USC).
We’ll see how things go, and I’ll have a post with some analysis of the first round after it happens.

Well its the next day; I shared your sentiments though just curious as to why you wanted no part of D Tate? Just curious I have no strong opinion on him.

Tate is a “tools” guy. People rave about things like “athleticism” when in reality, he can’t play any position really well. The football scholarship to UNC really doesn’t help matters. What was that football player’s name that the Royals coerced out of college ball…Roscoe Parrish maybe? Regardless, that didn’t work so well. And remember when the Braves took a flyer on Dennis Dixon in 2007? Yeah. Way too much risk involved in someone like Tate.

Definitely. I do a “prospect report” of each of our minor league teams, and ideally I’d like to hit up each team every month, though nothing as detailed as the first go around. I’m up to Danville, and have been putting off doing the writeups on a few of their guys, but I’m going to try to get my ass into gear and get them up this week, hopefully tomorrow.
