Soriano accepts arbitration offer
December 7th, 2009 | by joelucia |Jerry Crasnick of ESPN is reporting that Rafael Soriano has accepted his offer of arbitration.
So what does this mean for the Braves? Well, 7 or 8 million is now tied up on yet another reliever. The Braves cannot trade Soriano without his consent until June 15th, so the question becomes do you try to get the most mileage out of him on the field, or do you take a B-level prospect from a team on a rental?
Personally, I’d just say to hell with it and keep Soriano on the team for the season. Nearly every member of the Braves pen has had arm troubles, I’d rather have the insurance there then to have to patch holes with guys like Manny Acosta or Mariano Gomez.

Strange maneuver by Soriano and his agent. Looks like we’ll have (if he’s not traded) Saito in the 7th, Soriano in the 8th, and Wags in the 9th. Pretty formidable bullpen.

While at first I was disappointed, now I think this is a win-win. The idea of Saito, Soriano & Wags as the 7th, 8th and 9th is quite mouth watering. I also believe that if he does accept a trade before spring training that we can get more back for him than taking a chance with draft picks. If he is packaged with Lowe, I’d hope we could get a pretty good hitter out of it.
